LYNN LAU
About the Artwork
My art pieces invariably differ in themes, but are united in style˜the organic flow of line-art. I like making art accessible to all, that there should not be labels, categories, or boundaries hindering artistic growth or creative communities. Most of my work display a subtle brand of humor˜which is apparent in the Bearded Lady and Son˜or even the not-so-subtle, such as Medusa ("really a dedicated herpetologist"). And then there are quiet yet vivid pieces, such as Mine, which will hopefully provoke thought over ownership over a woman's body. Folds, another quiet piece, hides behind it the outrages suffered by women in Sudan. Artist Bio I grew up on an oil palm plantation in tropical Malaysia, and am now based in Wisconsin, quite infamous for its winters. Yes, I am as surprised as you are about it. I spend most days as an artist and a writer, and really, it's not surprising at the end of most nights to find my hands covered in ink. I am an unabashed feminist who is part of Artists for Choice, a Wisconsin-wide alliance of pro-choice artists who encourage individuals to manage their sexual and reproductive health through patient services, education, and advocacy. I contribute weekly to Girlamatic.com, a leading subscription site that publishes comics with a particular appeal for girls and women. I also work for state/church separation at a non-profit organization. I graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2001 with a degree in Communication Arts. http://tentative.net http://girlamatic.com http://notesfromacafe.net
