CHELSEA OLSON
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Born in Madison, Wisconsin, Chelsea Olson has spent the last twenty-two years of her life in this wonderful city. She is a recent graduate of the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in photography and an emphasis in design. Upon graduating she has been pursuing a career in which all of her interests and passions can be combined into one. As photography is her main interest, she continues to shoot avidly around the Madison area, and enjoys the range and diversity of her subjects in all areas. Although documentary style work tends to dominate her portfolio, interior and exterior architecture, urban and rural landscapes, portraits, and studio photographs are all areas of in-depth exploration. There is often a rich combination of vivid color, aesthetically arranged compositions, and a touch of design involved with in each piece, which makes for a uniquely developed style all her own.
About her display, Chelsea says, "Grandma Julia Belle lives in the neighborhood in which I have spent my entire life, the place that I refer to as home. She lives just down the street in a quaint white house with green shutters, next to the creek. The house, both inside and out, is filled with ninety-four years worth of memories, all of which my grandmother holds dear to her heart. She cherishes each and every letter sent, flower picked, and trinket made, accumulating treasures in every inch of space. These memories act as a reminder to the past, not only to her, but also to all who enter her home. Captivated by the passing of time and the path that leads us, I find myself within these images, growing older and keeping those memories in my mind as I encourage all to enter her home, her life, her world.
"In a time of loss it seems that one begins to appreciate what they once had, and cherish what they still hold. However, with an absence for words one may struggle with the proper way to express this newfound appreciation. Thus, silence falls, and a period of reflection begins to take its course. It occurred to me that a photographic reflection might not need words in order to be understood; a viewing of the images should suffice. Make of the images what you will; if my intensions are a success they will speak to you, and tell you exactly what you wish to hear."
